Festival Luigi Nono 2026
VOCI DESTROYING MUROS
Le figure femminili nell’opera e nella vita di Luigi Nono
From 30 October to 4 December 2026, the ninth edition of the Festival Luigi Nono 2026, entitled Voci destroying muros, presents a programme dedicated to the women who played a part in the Venetian composer’s personal and creative life. Women – artists, intellectuals, performers and interlocutors – who, through their presence and their ideas, helped to define the human, cultural and political landscape within which the composer’s work developed. With a rich programme of concerts, meetings, lectures, research and educational activities, the Festival takes place across some of the most prestigious venues and cultural institutions in the Venetian area, fostering a dialogue between Nono’s work and the city’s artistic, social and civic heritage.
Venice thus becomes not merely the setting for the event, but an active space for discussion and listening, where historical memory, the contemporary world and experimentation can come together.

The title Voci destroying muros evokes one of the most profound themes in Luigi Nono’s work: breaking down walls, crossing boundaries, and challenging divisions. From this perspective, female voices become instruments of knowledge and transformation, capable of opening up new musical and, more broadly, artistic and cultural horizons. Through a comparison of documents, testimonies, musical interpretations and new critical perspectives, the Festival invites us to re-examine the figure and work of Luigi Nono in the present day, navigating the space between individual experience and the collective dimension, between art, responsibility and the potential for transformation. On this occasion, we wish to remember with deep affection, esteem and gratitude a woman who played a fundamental role in Luigi Nono’s life and artistic journey: Mimma Guastoni. A friend and invaluable collaborator, Guastoni served as general manager and managing director of Casa Ricordi, helping to embrace, support and promote Nono’s musical aesthetics and research with great sensitivity. She was also one of the founders of the Luigi Nono Archive Foundation, making a decisive contribution to the preservation and promotion of his artistic and cultural legacy.
